love,

john and team

On this auspicious autumn day, my new album, Familiar Ground, leaves the nest and catches the wind on it’s own wings. These sounds were lovingly crafted and each song thoughtfully mended to help one feel a sense of mellow belonging. I hope you and yours find some, too. Thank you John Moreland, Whit Wright, Don Eanes, Kim Rosen, Pearl Rachinsky, Kris Payne, and Jake Lanier for being principal cornerstones to creation of this work. Without you, it would have only been an egg of potential. You can listen now on all digital platforms and find it on the shelves of your local record store. Have heart, be safe, and take care.

Today is the release of “When This Blows Over”, a song of storms from the new album. This is a message of hope, but not one that disregards reality. Rolling Stone featured the tune as a Song You Need To Know, calling it “gorgeous and hopeful...like Elliott Smith if he fronted an alt-country band from Oklahoma”. (https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/john-calvin-abney-when-this-blows-over-1073185/)

The official music video for “When This Blows Over” came forth alongside the song and was produced by Samantha Crain, filmed by Rahul Chakraborty, and features the dancing and choreography of Lauren Elizabeth Panicelli. My wish is that you experience the joy we had making such a special work together.

You can stream it now on all platforms and pre-order Familiar Ground from http://blackmesarecords.com or via the music link. Record finds it’s way to Earth on November 20th.

When this blows over, I’m coming back to see you again, I guarantee it.
