Awful Quiet, Awful Quick

On February 14th, I will be releasing Awful Quiet, an instrumental companion to Shortwaving, composed for piano and string quartet.

It is of no surprise that I have spent an inordinate amount of my life in transit and in motion. So much so, that the front seat of the car became the door in which ideas began to sneak past the guards of my worries and distractions. Recently, as I drove down the interstate, I began to hear the melodies of Shortwaving in other voices and movements, leading me to record reimagined versions with haste in order to crystallize what made it through the door. Inspired greatly by the works of Yasunori Mitsuda and Ryuichi Sakamoto, may these works find you in moments of motion as they found me.

Exclusively on Bandcamp for the time being, Awful Quiet will be out two weeks from today. Thank you for your ears.

Shortwaving is out now!

My new EP, Shortwaving, is out now!

Born in a mercurial flash of phosphor, sweat, and static, this work was recorded in a single day at Secret Studio during the height of the Ohio summer. Lydia Loveless skillfully captured and engineered each song as they ricocheted in the live room and settled into each mic she placed. Sam Brown encapsulated the electricity in his titanic drumming and the great Todd May conducted choirs of feedback over the tunes. Katie Harriman showed up on her birthday and sang harmonies on the title track with precision. Caeleigh Featherstone meticulously mixed the tracks between tours. Michael Trepagnier contributed his knowledge and assisted in engineering. Rebecca Sarkar helped me manage the chaos, encouraged triumph on my first independent release in years, and took all the photography for the EP in the refinery yards of west Tulsa. Shannon Sipes designed the album cover, nearly ten years after she worked on my last EP.
