The full-length album Coyote was released 9 months ago this coming week, and as an end of year bonus, Black Mesa Records has re-released one of my first EPs on this beautiful blue splatter 10" vinyl, mastered to 45rpm. Along with the vinyl, we've made CDs and hand-printed a new t-shirt design thanks to Cole Roberts. Head on over to the label site and get some gifts before year end.
I had a spectacular experience returning to the mountains, pacific northwest coast, the southwestern deserts, and the places that hold so much meaning and mystery still that lie between the cities we live in. Boundless gratitude to every single person who came out to the shows, bought records, and sang along, and thank you to M. Lockwood Porter for being my companion on the highways.
As the tour came to an end and culminated in a trip to Little Rock to perform at Holiday Hangout with extended family and loved ones, I retreated back down to Austin, TX and began work on a new album. Assisted by Shonna Tucker, Will Johnson, John Moreland, and Megan Palmer, I am near speechless with the work we turned around and the magic that was created in the realm of Ramble Creek Studio with Britton Beisenherz at the helm. More news coming soon, but let this be known: music will not and can not pass away, and there is a lot of love printed to tape coming to your ears as soon as possible.
After a suspiciously long year and tens of thousands of miles traveled once again, I know many of us are tired, confused, exhausted, and ready for the tides of change to roll in with the winter winds. Hold fast and tight to the good, stay soft while maintaining your strength, and choose to move forward if you can will it to be.
all the love in the world for you to reach out and hold,

Vesa at onechord.net had splendid words concerning this collection of songs, saying:
"a very impressive collection of songs and his best album so far... John has found his own voice...unique combination of folk, americana, rock’n’roll and indie pop. I hope this one will get the recognition it deserves. In my books, Far Cries and Close Calls is one of 2016’s finest."
A music video for the song "Way Out" is finished and will be released in the coming weeks. Keep your eyes and ears at full attention!
Before John heads out on his 30+ day tour across America in support of the album, he will be making a run to the mountains of Colorado for a select set of theatre and brewery dates:

Hey, folks! Hope the fall turned out well and that you are staying warm in these freezing rains and banshee winds. Staying busy as always, John has been playing shows backing John Moreland in the Dustbowl Souls in Oklahoma, and also, with the Damn Quails across Texas and Colorado. Along with recording guitars with swing band, Kyle Reid and the Low-Swinging Chariots, and hip-hop group, Addverse Effects, he assisted in the release of Poolboy's 7" "Soda Kids EP" on drums.
With saved time and head to the grindstone, he will be playing a handful of solo shows this winter across Oklahoma to get everyone prepared for his first full-length LP, slated to be out in summer.
You can catch John with his talented band of wild bandits in the new year:
January 9th: The Deli in Norman, OK (w/ Sixty-Nine Dollar Guitar)
January 17th: Tres Cantina in Norman, OK (solo)
January 24th: The Vanguard in Tulsa, OK (w/ ADMIRALS)
January 25th: Frank and Lola's in Bartlesville, OK (full band)
January 26th: Frank and Lola's n Bartlesville, OK (w/ John Fullbright)
John has booked studio time in late April to start work on the LP at Tiny Telephones in San Francisco, CA. The record will be recorded fully analog with engineer Jacob Winik at the console, with the assistance of some of his best friends backing him, including guitarist Kyle Reid. More news about the LP soon!
Until next time, lovely people of the world.

The EF-5 tornado that hit Moore but a few days ago was massive, heart-rending event for the State of Oklahoma. Many people lost their homes, loved ones, and their routine lives. In order to help raise relief for such a saddening disaster, many of us Okie musicians are getting together to perform for the cause on Wednesday at the Bricktown Event Center. Tickets are available now and are $25.
(update: Wanda Jackson has confirmed for Music for Moore also!!)
